I heard that in the 1700s Japanese teen girls often got those from friends and family so that they could spend time learning about sex before doing it  :)  (which shows you how far behind the times some other people are these days...).
Unfortunately, illiteracy was higher in the 1700s.  However, even the illiterates didn&#039;t get left out, because some &quot;spring pictures&quot; books were made specifically for them.  These had *everything* illustrated so you didn&#039;t need to read to get the point.</description>

If you poke around the site, you find not only the shunga, but interesting technical details about the workshop that the site is from -- stuff like evaluating the tears and patches in the prints, the fineness of the inking for the geisha&#039;s hair, and so on.</description>
