a note on “one-sided representation”. the market exists for its demographic. people pay for what they want to see. it may be rather sexist now, but as more women seek pleasure in pornography, there is bound to be more balance. still… i know that there are a lot of women (even feminists like me) who get turned on by the fantasy of submission. not sure i would actually do some of this stuff, but it does fan the flames…

about working for a living: nothing is degrading about that. but some work, even voluntary, is indeed degrading. people having to train their replacements in the corporate world after a bout of offshoring counts as voluntary, yet degrading, at the same time. but porn actors have no union, and there’s no fair market rate when these actors sign away their creative rights to the images. jenna jameson is not degraded because she owns everything she makes. not so for lesser known actors. just because someone is willing doesn’t mean it’s not degrading. people are willing to work at mcdonalds–but that is still degrading work. working for a living is fine–but the working conditions should be fair. it is only recently (like last year) that cal osha cracked down on porn companies who won’t use condoms on the set. and yes, some actors make the bad decision to star in movies where condoms are not mandatory–they bear the responsibility for that. but they also shouldn’t have to make that choice if all companies followed the same safety guidelines instead of relying on self regulation. and whatever they pay a girl to do double anal sans condom will always be TOO CHEAP. this is her life here–even $10 g is too low a price, and if that’s not even the going market rate, that’s a shame. lara roxx got maybe $2g for that act–which is a pretty low market price.

yes, i’m aware that the human ass can stretch to the limit. we do have a lot of intestines after all. which is also the danger–it’s that much easier to lose things in there. the strength is also its weakness.

fair market price is only when you own and control your images, period. even with a fat one time payment fee, that’s a drop in the bucket compared to the profit companies will reap when they reissue those images in compilations and such. and yeah–when they use your images without your input because you signed away the rights to them that is degrading. i stand by that. this goes for the male and female talent.

Oh, and just to clarify: there’s no doubt in my mind that there *is* indeed huge sexism in the American porn industry. But the worst offenders (or the best evidence) are in the gonzo/reality genres, not the BDSM genre. Michelle could make her points fairly if she did a bit of research, but I don’t think she can do so (as she tried to do here) using Sex and Submission or this post for her evidence.

it regards to sexism the other way:
notice i didn’t say that portrayals of female submissives is wrong and should be illegal. notice my complaint was lack of male images and the one sided representation. basically, my complaint was lack of representation and equality.

it’s like when asian americans complain that they only see tv reporters and hookers in mainstream tv and film. nothing wrong with playing a hooker or tv reporter, but there’s something wrong when that’s all they’ll allow you to audition for. obviously, it’s gotten much better, but still a ways to go.

and really–i hardly see male sexual submission in mainstream het porn. do men take it in the ass in mainstream het porn? NO. only women get it in the ass in mainstream het porn. so men getting penetrated is still pretty culturally and visually remarkable, if not legally remarkable.

but i would love it if you directed me to a mainstream het porn site where men take a good hard ramming in the ass (not with s&m themes). women can take an ass ramming in non-s&m porn, but i’d like to see the men do it too. and if you know where this site is, please do tell so i can visit and become a paying member.

many porn stars (including jenna jameson) think recieving anal is the submissive position, even without the leather and spanking. again, aside from the bend over bf series, where are the mainstream het porn depictions of men taking it in the ass? not saying it don’t exist, but it must be very very very rare. i’ve heard of sam takes the shaft, but the one video i saw featured unattractive actors i couldn’t look at straight on. educate me please!

Michelle, you seem to have a bad habit of fulminating from a position of ignorance. I’d really suggest “boning up” a bit more. I’m not going to respond to everything you said, just correct some factual errors and misconceptions:

Unless you think it’s degrading to work for a living? Also, it’s simply *not* the case that assholes normally get “shredded” doing double anal. Go read the book “Anal Pleasure and Health’ and come back when you’ve got a better sense of what the human body is capable of.
