It looks like he got a woman, strapped her to his truck, and I daresay when he gets her home, he's going to mount her.

Who cares about the woman? I'm looking at that fine old pickup, the fishing stream {trout?} and that shotgun. There's a time and place for everything. I just hope the guy had a nice tent and a frying pan....

"Thirty or forty years ago, it might have been seen as a commentary on the treatment of women,"

Personally this was my first thought. Yes, it does ring of the trophy wife, proud hunter got his game; however, it could also be presenting the illusion of the feminine death of identity, coupled with the death of choice/power (hands/feet bound like a fresh kill) once in union with a man through marriage.

I am sorry people find this that uneasy to look at, even today. Especially considered somethings still ring very true in our world. Too often people have their materialistic toys and trophies to derive ego from. And unfortunately in the midwest US, I can think of 10 people by name whom in conversation will mention their cars, guns and women (usually in that order) when ego comes into play. Some parts of the world are not so indifferent. I believe the fact that we do discuss this one so is a true compliment to the complexity of this piece of art.

I kinda like it for the satire that it is.

Carmen, thanks for finding the source for this picture. I appreciate it.

Mo, in many parts of the United States a shotgun is the weapon of choice (sometimes, required by law) for deer hunting (think "buck shot", though sometimes a rifled slug is used) as well as for game birds.
