What is more important about the blog posting - Violet's name or the content?

"Quiet women rarely make history." - so says the bumper sticker. And it is true.

"my first thought is “will this amuse, entertain, or turn somebody on?”.
Which is why I enjoy your blog.
The last time I recall you got flack for posting an image was May 3rd, 2006.

It was Bacchus' link to Violet that introduced me to her. :)
I read Voilet's blog for the upfront and sincere infromation she provides. She seems very personable and upfront, not one to beat about the bush (no pun).
Some people do like individuals who are straight forward and honest. And then there are the select few who just dont like that sort of person, and feel it necessary to make it their job to "shut someone up".

I believe Violet does a great service to many people across the internet.

I guess I just don't see trivializing and mocking someone's name as all that amusing.

No, I was being mildly bemused, and you're getting waaaaay too bent out of shape about something trivial and, well, mildly amusing.

Sheesh, indeed.

Mike, are you deliberately trying to be offensive? It's her freakin' name!

What do you care how she got it?

And why are you asking me, who already said I don't know?

And how grade school is it, for you to be mocking her name? Are you going to start chanting, next?

"Violet Blue,
Violet Blue,
She keeps a dildo
in her shoe!"

Sheesh!

So she legally changed it to Violet Blue? Or did she really have parents who thought two colors in her name, and having a toddler with the name of a latenight cable sex show, was a good idea?

I guess anything's possible, after all, there were once parents who came from a hotel-owning family who thought it would be a good idea to name their daughter for a city. "You're Paris Hilton? Yeah, and I'm Des Moines Motelsix."

You point out in your piece that perhaps part of the difference is that Violet is a woman. Strong women have historically had a problem with persecution for their activism, and sad as it is, sometimes it seems that when a woman tries to make a point, some folks feel the need to shove back twice as hard as they might if a man had tried to make the same point. It's not always the case, but it does seem to happen a lot. Since Violet's chosen advocacies are sexual in nature, I absolutely shudder to think about the people who want to "put her in her place".

She's definitely a woman of strong convictions and I admire her for standing up for what she believes - even if it means having contacts at the SFPD on speed dial...

Mike G, the linked article states explicitly "My real, true, legal name is Violet Blue." That's not a pseudonym, which is defined as a fictitious name used to conceal one's identity. Violet Blue is the identity of the person in question.

You're trying to suggest that the person who is universally known for all purposes as Violet Blue may once have had a different name. I don't know if that's true or not, but it doesn't matter.

She doesn't use a psuedonym. Trust me on this one.

I know what you meant by saying "she doesn't use a pseudonym," but I'm pretty sure that strictly speaking, she was never a baby named Violet belonging to a Mr. and Mrs. Blue.

Sincerely,
Rod Hammerin

I'm a big fan of Violet's. I also don't think she could do what she does and stay anonymous, even if she wanted to, since she teaches sexuality classes at several schools, and she's published!

I'm sad to hear so many bloggers have issues staying anonymous. I guess it makes sense, but it's still very sad.
