Am I the only one that finds this doctrine, not progressive obviously, but… practical? Sure, it’s inane that one needs religious sanction in order to hook up, but at least there’s some provision for hooking up. The practice could be misogynist, but that doesn’t actually sounds like the case here. I’d love to hear candid assessments from practitioners.

Fascinating. I’d only recently heard about these “temporary marriages” when watching a documentary about Iranian transsexual women (some of who did it as prostitution after their transitions and being outcast by their families made it impossible to do anything else). Interesting how Hezbollah is using it, though.

On a side note, it’s endlessly insane to me that a religion can condone casual sex, but condemn masturbation. Crazy.
