I can agree with the comment that they get hot on Australian power; several sites here now sell an adjusted 'medisil' model that still gets hot.

In addition, not all the "Foreign adapters" are voltage converter. Some are simply plug adapters that do nothing to the current. They will let the 220 go straight on through and cook your motor. Also, for planning purposes, I have run into a grounded plug, the equivalent of our three prong, which cannot be used with the plug adapters in most converter kits.
Unless they are going to be there long enough to justify the purchase of a Eurasian version of the Hitachi, it seems to me that the ladies would be better off just packing a battery operated type - atteries are pretty much available anywhere and the battery operated types would be more easier to pack (pesky weight restrictions on airline luggage.)

A quick google brings up Australian sites that sell the Hitachi Magic Wand along with a Step-Down converter to let it run on Southern current.

Warning, using a Hitachi Magic Wand may cause you and/or your partner's bodies to rotate and flex in a clockwise rather than anti-clockwise direction, if your pleasure approaches cyclonic force. Position padding around your place o' pleasure appropriately.

Voltage converters convert the voltage to the 110-120 volts the Hitachi wants, but will not convert the frequency. American line voltage is 60Hz (meaning the AC waveform fluctuates 60 times per second), many foreign countries use 50Hz. That may make the motor in the Hitachi run slower, or overheat.
