If you do a Google image search under &quot;James Montgomery Flagg&quot; (aside:  could there *be* a more patriotic-sounding name?) you&#039;ll find several reproductions of it under the title &quot;The Fencer,&quot; although I have another source -- Craig You&#039;s _Clean Cartoonists&#039; Dirty Drawings_ (San Francisco: Last Gasp, 2007) which claims that the painting was popularly called &quot;Puss in Boots,&quot; (p. 101), as commenter E3 has already noted.

The model for the painting *might* have been a young woman named Ilse Hoffman.  You can see one blogger&#039;s take at http://illustrationart.blogspot.com/2007/08/artists-in-love.html

Realize that&#039;s not much; wish I had more.</description>
