As a masochist, i find the concept of needing to avoid harm to others rather depressing. There is probably some truth to it for many, but i have a vested interest in believing that surely, SOME people must genuinely love to see me in real distress.

The irony, of course, is that it does make me very happy. When your fantasies depend on believing in other people's genuine cruelty, you shoot yourself in the foot - because if they are truly sadistic, and really make you suffer, they are giving you exactly what you want. There's an old joke: What did the sadist say to the masochist? "No."

I guess the link is, i twist my *own* character to suit the fantasy - i need to imagine i hate everything that's happening to me. The human mind is a bizarre place....

I don't go as far as Greta, but I certainly know what she means. The excitement of a fantasy revolves around it seeming plausible on some sort of level. In fiction, the better the writing the more license they have to go a foot. Although reading real life sex blogs is not in of itself an end, it is far more effective than random 'tube videos.

So, when putting characters in a fantasy, she twists the fantasy to suit the characters, and you twist the characters to fit the fantasy....

Fascinating. Perhaps you two could have a conversation, and gift us readers with the transcript? *wink wink nudge nudge*
