Hedy Lamarr, known for her sexual beauty on the silver screen of Hollywood. But also a brainy co-inventor of a submarine radar system, that helped the United States in World War II. Quiet a gal, would’nt you agree?
She was given a co-patent for the use of radar hoping as a way to guide torpedos and keep them from being electronically jammed. Too advanced for its day, and it was not adopted until the early 1960s by the US military.
One idea she developed and GAVE to the US Government free of charge to aid the WW2 effort was the concept of Spread-Spectrum radio transmission. It couldn’t be intercepted by the enemy and is in use by mobile phones today. Indeed, quite a lady!
