I’ve often wondered if the artists and publishers of this strange stuff from the 40s were aware of the not-so-subtext, or do we just have dirty minds/ (not that there’s anything wrong with that…)
William Moulton Marston, who created WW and wrote her early adventures, was almost certainly aware of the kinky subtexts in his stories. His personal philosophy was apparently laced (pun intended) with BDSM elements and he actively practiced polyamory. The amazing thing is that his fantasies were published in comic books aimed at young people.
