Nah. No commentary. I’ll just piss people off, to no good purpose. So I’ll just quote you what Roger Ebert says, and let you mull the implications for yourself. You are smart people, you’ll see ’em:
In a disputed translation of the apocryphal Gospel of Philip, found on a Nag Hammadi scroll in 1945, we may read: And the companion of the Saviour was Mary Magdalene. Christ loved Mary more than all the disciples, and used to kiss her often on her mouth. The rest of the disciples were offended by it and expressed disapproval. They said to him, “Why do you love her more than all of us?” The Saviour answered and said to them, “Why do I not love you like her?”

A lot of so-called (self-proclaimed) “Christians” let others (especially those with certain divisive political agendas), define what Christianity is, and they themselves often don’t even read their own Bibles. If they did, they would perhaps be less judgmental. Matthew 7 for instance begins in support of the line of thinking that you have just cited from The Gospel of Phillip… It starts with “Judge not, that ye be not judged.” and “Why are you so concerned with the speck of sawdust in your neighbor’s eye, and yet pay no attention to the log in your own eye?”.
I think the call is to search the motives of our own hearts, and evaluate our own actions, before so readily condemning others.
Meanwhile segueing awkwardly from the sacred to the profane…

Curiously, when I saw the photo ( http://blogs.su...9.jpg ) of the niqab-wearing women (amid others at the link within your posting), I was sexually provoked by the hijabbed hottie on the far left.

It reminded me of something said in an old, old advice column by one of the Friedman twins (Ann Landers or Dear Abby), unfortunately, I can’t remember which twin (or the exact details of the letter), about men in a strip club ignoring the dancers while trying to surreptitiously look up the skirt of a rather prim and proper looking woman in a business suit, sitting at the bar sipping her drink through a straw and twisting occasionally on her stool.
The columnist said something to the effect that a glimpse at something not meant to be seen, can be far sexier than something fully exposed for all to see.
I’m not so sure that the burqas that the men are requiring their women to wear, are really accomplishing their “mission”…
Ah, a Gnostic gospel. Big grin from me :-).
If you watch the recent movie Agora, about the philosopher Hypatia, her chief antagonist is a bishop named Cyril. If I remember correctly, the same Cyril along with his thug-monks (also in the movie), cracked down on anyone (including other monks) suspected of heretical thinking.
This crackdown probably led whoever owned the Nag Hammadi book collection to bury them in the desert, where they stayed until the 1940s.
