Anal Bleaching
From Calico Lane: the most sensible thing you are ever likely to read about the inherently nonsensical topic of anal bleaching. It doesn’t excerpt well, though, so no pull-quote — you just have to go read it.
(What I like best about Calico’s post, actually, is the long up-front conversation about “is this email for reals?” When you’ve been getting random reader mails on sexual topics for long enough, believe me, all the ones that don’t go straight to Recycle Bin go through a meta-analysis like that.)

But it sure sounds possible!
After reading the link, I was concerned about one of the conclusions drawn in the article, which was that the anal bleaching craze was due to a desire to look “whiter”, “prettier”, and more “childlike”. I’m not so sure this is the major reason. My feeling (from the context of various Internet mentions of the practice), is that women wanted to avoid they felt was the off-putting appearance of “santorum”… ( http://en.wikip...gism) )
Well, I would have called it more of an “opinion” than a conclusion, actually. I’m more likely to disagree or agree with those than be “concerned about” them…
Dr. Whiplash seems to have the right of it; the reader who sent the email referred to the bleached anuses of porn stars being “nice and presentable” as opposed to “youthful”.
I can empathize with the reader here… I recently caught my first glimpse of myself between the cheeks since I did the self-investigation with a mirror right at the onset of puberty. My first thought was, “Holy shit, it’s THAT color there? It looks like I don’t bother wiping!” I mentioned this to my fiancee, who nonchalantly replied, “So what?”
*sigh* It still bothers me, but his conscious acceptance of my body allows the rational portion of my brain to win out over the irrational desire to give the anal bleaching a go in spite of all its nearly certain pitfalls.
Perhaps more women need to communicate with their lover on this one (or upgrade to one who is willing to accept them as they are)
