Really Tall Showers?
I’m not at all certain what we’re looking at in this gem from Usenet. Is that shower heads in some really ornate and outsized ancient baths? I dunno, but I like it:

My bet is that this some sort of hydrotherapy setup at a European health resort circa 1900. The conical hat is to keep the hot water off your coif, and the rumpled panties show how far spandex technology has come.
Could it just be that the model is very small?
The first three words of the text at the bottom are ‘Royat Etablissement Thermal’, referring to this place: http://www.ot-r...0.php
The next word could, as Petronius suggests, be ‘Hydrothérapie’, though it doesn’t look quite right to me. I have no idea about the next few words, apart from the fairly obvious ‘de’.
A similar postcard from the same establishment can be found here: http://images-0...1.jpg with a different set of initials at the end, suggesting to me that these indicate the photographer.
Finally, the high showers can be seen in other images from a similar era and I assume they were used to create higher water pressure via gravity.

I think Petronius is right about it being hydrotherapy. I can make out the words Royat – établissement thermal, and a quick google shows that Royat still sells itself on “thermalisme”:

Abdallah’s second postcard, with the lounge chairs and electrical apparatus, in close proximity to a hydrotherapy suite, makes me worry about electrical safety. I think there was a scene of such in the film “Road to Wellville”, which I understand was quite accurate as to Dr. Kellog’s strange ideas.
When I first saw this photo I thought “OMG! She’s wearing a Tom Terrific thinking cap!”

The second line reads Douches de face “Dames”, which roughly translate to ladies shower cabin/area (in my limited French). “ND Phot.” is an abbreviation of Neurdein Frères Photographie, which translates to Neurdein Brothers Photography.

I’m not sure what ‘Douches de face’ means – Google suggests it’s a very rare combination of words.
‘Douches de face’ means simply
