Mike Webb, a self-described conservative House candidate in Virginia, made headlines all over the web yesterday by posting to his Facebook page a screenshot of one of his searches. No extra charge for the two visible porn tabs in his browser bar:

His story, which precisely nobody believes, is that he suffered “a cyberattack” on his FEC data file so he took his computer to Best Buy, where a “technician” found “400 viruses” that “likely came from porn sites.” So what did he do? According to an explanation he briefly posted to Facebook, he decided to test out that theory:

“Curious by nature, I wanted to test the suggestion that somehow, lurking out in the pornographic world there is some evil operator waiting for the one in a gazillion chance that a candidate for federal office would go to that particular website and thereby be infected with a virus that would cause his or her FEC data file to crash the FEC file application each time that it was loaded on the day of the filing deadline, as well as impact other critical campaign systems.”

I am not the first to observe that the true scandal here is that he conducts his searches on Yahoo.
