I wonder if there will be another ‘clean up’ of art by conservative future generations like there has apparently been in times past, or even if such a thing will be possible given the breadth of our knowledge storages?

It might well be more likely than one would think. I have noticed that libraries, and other stores of knowledge, have been replacing their “hard” copies of books, tapes, and maps etc., with various forms of digital media. If one of several possible causes of a nationwide or planet-wide electromagnetic pulses (EMP), were to occur (upper atmosphere nuclear detonation, etc.), our digital media could be permanently erased in a matter of mere seconds! In such a case, large-scale internet losses could be quite devastating to many forms of electronic records.
“History” would be at the mercy of those who managed to hold onto some sort of non-electronic copy. Many foolish people are throwing out magazine “porn”, due to the plethora of available web erotica.

Makes me want to go out and buy a copy of the Encyclopedia Britannica! As a kid I used to read through our copy looking , battle of, because I was bored. That and any images of naughty jewelry :D
