Norse legend has it that when a warrior dies in battle, blonde Valkyrie warrior goddesses arrive to escort him to the great mead hall in the sky, aka Valhalla. Wenching and carousing (with enthusiastic Valkyrie participation) are assumed.

Obligatory “Vikings didn’t wear horned helms”, but when your costume only has 3-4 pieces, a horned helm certainly gets your intended point across. Sexy person in armour just doesn’t have the same cachet as Sexy Viking.
I’m not sure conscious acts of pedantry are ever obligatory, but hey, whatever floats your boat Justin! ;-)
