Mother And Daughter Nudists
Another striking vintage photo, a pair of pretty nude sunbathers on a sunny day. But something about their features makes me think: perhaps these two are mother and daughter?

I believe you’re right Bacchus. They don’t appear to be professional models for one thing (which when paired, are often chosen for age and feature similarities), and they seem to have honest, natural smiles (seriously, no pun intended), which I just adore on naked females. They appear quite comfortable well within each other’s personal space, without any sign of sexual attraction to each other. It’s also a bit noteworthy that in what (I’m guessing) was a time in which the popular “blonde bombshells” were a bit more voluptuous, these gals are actually rather fit by today’s somewhat more stringent standards. Either one of them could wear a “belly shirt” with no fear of pushing the envelope…

I don’t know about mother and daughter. Are they even far enough apart in age to be mother and daughter? If they are related, I’d guess sisters or cousins.

Roloper, if you don’t see the similarities I see, why not just say so? Familial opinion is intangible. Absolutes like “can’t” and “are not” are inappropriate here. Because you don’t know. Any more than I do.
When you state your opinion this way, it sounds arrogant and rude, because it suggests that you consider your opinion to be better than mine.
They “can” be mom and daughter. They might not be. I’m interested in your opinion, and why you have it. I’m not much impressed to hear you declare the debate over, just because your opinion differs from mine. What the fuck?
Why do people do this so much? Is friendly discussion so difficult?

I like to solicit my readers’ opinions about all sorts of things, all sorts of unknowable things. Opinions are fun to hear, especially when they come with reasons.
On the other hand, it’s off-putting — to put it mildly — to have people come into these comments and claim to know those unknowable things. It’s a form of internet oneupsmanship — an arrogant assertion that “my opinion is better than yours, so much better than yours that it’s not opinion, it’s fact. And by the way, you’re wrong, neener neener, how does it feel to have a smaller e-peener than mine?”
I don’t think it’s an overreaction to call bullshit when that happens. Or, for that matter, just to moderate the comment, which is what I usually do.
I’m with Bacchus on this one. After reading two thoughtful replies then coming to roloper’s opinion, it was like hitting a wall.
It shows up an utter lack of manners and delicacy on roloper’s part. If your opinion differs from what was only a suggestion in the first place, there are much better ways of expressing it than an adolescent-sounding haughty assertion without any reasoning to support it.
Maybe roloper was in a hurry, and didn’t have time to construct a more detailed response, and would be shocked by the reaction above. But writing a rushed and blunt reply also shows a lack of etiquette and respect, because if you care about your target audience, then you take the time to express yourself more eloquently.
Just my opinions. Feel free to challenge them, that’s what they’re there for.
And as for the mother & daughter question? I don’t know. Not a clue. Not the foggiest inkling. But the picture made me smile, so it doesn’t matter.

dan, i’m with bacchus on this one. i don’t think he over reacted. in fact, you saying “it’s possible they’re not mother and daughter” kind of hits the nail on the head, becasue that’s what he was saying. he was saying that in his opinion they are mother and daughter, but that none of us can know for sure whether or not they are. so there is nothing wrong with saying that in your opinion they are not mother and daughter, but saying that they can’t, that’s presumptive. bacchus didn’t say ‘they are’, he said ‘perhaps they are’. leaving room for the opinions of others.
roloper stated it in a way that felt like s/he was saying ‘how could you be so stupid to think that’, which is not so nice.
you’ll notice that no one had a problem with bbobb’s comment, even though it was offering an opinion different from bacchus’, that’s because he did it in the same spirit of the original statement, a musing, as opposed to steadfast knowledge.
roloper’s comment wasn’t in response to anything i wrote, and yet still, i felt a bit like i was punched in the gut when i read it. i suppose because i happen to agree with the theory that they are mother and daughter, so it felt like someone was saying ‘how could you be so stupid’ to me too. this is not to be confused with taking it personally, because after the first initial viceral reaction, before any logic can kick in, well, logic kicked in and i frankly don’t care what some random stranger says.
but i applaud bacchus for calling him on it.

It’s not at all unusual for daughters not to look like their mothers. A recent TV program on one of the education oriented channels claimed that children are more likely to reflect their father’s appearances. The speculation was that even though kids have an equal amount of genetic material from both parents, evolution may have made the father’s physical attributes dominate, so that he would be more likely to believe that his mate’s children were indeed his own, and therefore provide for them. The mother, after all, knew the child was hers. The father, was never sure.
Also, if these models don’t seem to some of you, to have enough similarities to be mother/daughter, then why is there so much speculation herein that they are sisters?

Sisters with the same father and mother, would share even MORE genetic material than mother/daughter (with presumably different fathers…), not less.
The “model” on the left, has her arms raised slightly higher (at a 90 degree angle to each other), than the model on the right, whose arms are more at about a mere 130-135 degree angle. This is enough of a difference to account for “mom’s” perky nipple vectors…
And finally, if mom led a healthful lifestyle and daughter was a drinker/smoker and lifelong sun worshipper, they’re going to look about the same age, especially if they’re only about fifteen years apart. I’ve known women in their upper sixties who easily looked younger than other women in their lower fifties.
Bacchus’s original speculation is not at all unreasonable.

At the very real risk of whipping a dead horse, I can add more reasons why these ladies could indeed very well be mother and daughter. Noses growing in length as one ages, and if the younger of these two ladies has a genetically inherited larger nose from her father, then she is likely to look older, and therefore closer to her mother’s age rather than about 15 or more years apart. I have seen MANY a snapshot of mother-daughter imagescwhere I wasn’t sure which was which. There are countless 43 year olds that look 23. One of the sons on the TV show Bonanza was in fact older that the man who played his father!
A little bit of weight difference can ALSO change a person’s perceived age.
Not only do they have extremely similar areola, but they also have extremely similar nasolabial folds!
