I thought that when the war was lost American high command solider types set up these weird taboos so that pre ww2 Japanese porn was clear and precise but post war stuff was ‘neutered’. Even today I suspect that some of their proclivities would be bothersome to mainstream American smut audiences. Schoolgirl Manga and used panty vending machines anyone?
Well jag, according to Wikipedia, (http://en.wikip...Japan) censorship in Japan goes back much further than the war. As a Kurosawa fan, it totally meshes with what I know of prewar Japanese sex censorship (as little as that is). Those “American high command solider types” probably had their hands full keeping porn out of the hands of the occupation forces, if I know them right.
Also, I am not so sure about “smut audiences” being bothered by the schoolgirl meme or the panty vending machines. We already have our own versions of the same. Except in the US you by your used panties online instead. (Pros: delivery to your home, more styles to choose from, Con: requires more planing) We also have plenty of schoolgirl porn obviously, just not a big manga audience compared to Japan.
I suspect there is more to the Japanese schoolgirl fetish than just pedophiliac tendencies. In an earlier post Bacchus links to the site for illustrator Kanai, who has schoolgirls being tortured and even hanged. Its kind of creepy. Actually a lot creepy. But then, I looked at it, so who’s the creep now?
I’m not sure what makes it creepy, Petronius. It cannot see the difference between torturing and hanging schoolgirls and torturing and hanging adults. Both seem to me to be equally horrible in reality and equally legit topics of fantasy. A lot of people seem to have hang ups about sexual attraction to school aged girls, which seems silly. People seem afraid that if they admit to finding young girls attractive they will somehow accidentally have sex with them. When I see the vault open at a bank it gets my attention, but I haven’t robbed any banks yet. I like the sweet smell I sometimes detect on city buses, but I haven’t smoked crack yet either.
