The Sex Blog Of Record
Thursday, April 27th, 2023 -- by Bacchus
This is, I believe, the fourth time that ErosBlog has visited with Raquel Welch and her infamous whip from the 1969 movie The Magic Christian. These appear to be publicity shots with Ringo Starr, also in the cast. Do we wonder if Ringo actually let her try to whip the cigarette out of his mouth?
Thanks to Paltego at Femdom Resource for finding these.

Back in April I spent some of your generously-provided Patreon money buying a copy of a 1970s Saga magazine that I had reason to believe would contain additional photos from the Raquel Welch photo shoot featured on its cover:
(Don’t forget to click all photos in this post for much-higher-resolution scans.)
I was wrong, I was wrong, I was so very wrong.
The “pictorial portrait of a sex goddess” promised on the cover did not, in fact, contain any more photos from that shoot. Instead, it consisted of these three nearly-random dubiously-printed pages:
Photographic shovelware, I tell you! But… it is Raquel Welch, and I already spent your money, so I scanned ’em in anyway. Hope you enjoy!

This is just a note to let my Patreon supporters know about one of the projects in train made possible by your generosity. The above magazine (Saga, from August 1975) features a pictorial of the gorgeous Raquel Welch under the headline “Raquel Revealed: Pictorial Portrait Of A Sex Goddess”. It is my considered conclusion after substantial research that no good and complete scans of that pictorial are currently to be found on the internet — a deficit I hereby propose to remedy, in aid of which I have already ordered a scanning copy of the magazine in question.
Several photos from the pictorial can be found on the internet, including this one at Bondage Blog of Raquel in a fetching posture on her knees:
It was my skepticism about the nipples on display beneath her tiny dress, and whether they might have been “touched up” by an internet fan, that drove me to research the photo’s provenance, but I quickly discovered that nobody involved in the numerous social shares of the kneeling photo (and of its companion shots similar to the one on the Saga cover) seemed to have any idea of the origins of the photos, despite them being widely shared, albeit in various low resolutions with dubious color indexing. By the time I tracked down the Saga cover that revealed the true source, I knew the world needed some nice big full-color scans of the entire pictorial. Watch this space!
Disappointing update: It turns out the cover photo on the Saga magazine is the only one from that shoot actually published on/in the magazine; the inside “pictorial” is three pages of unrelated photos. Neither the Bondage Blog photo or the other photos from the same shoot drifting around the web were published in Saga. It’s back to the provenance mines for me!

I guess this is supposed to be lingerie, but it’s so fancy I literally can’t imagine when it ought to be worn in real life. No matter, Raquel by a frog pond is all the excuse we need:
This dates to 1968. Found here.

Remember those pictures of Raquel Welch with a whip, in charge of a slave galley? Well, here’s another one:

Some time ago Dr. Faustus blogged about a 1969 movie featuring (among many other notables) Raquel Welch in an outrageous costume as the whip-mistress of the rowing deck of a notional vessel called (along with the movie) The Magic Christian. Now Frequently Felt has come up with what looks like a production still and/or publicity shot from that movie, offering us (and on our behalf, I’m accepting the offer!) a much better look at Ms. Welch’s awesome costume:

The Magic Christian (1969) can’t be said to be a particularly good movie by any stretch of the imagination. It would seem to have a great deal of promise, having been based on a novel by Terry Southern and having brought together a remarkable amount of comedic talent. It has an interesting premise — a very bored, misanthropic billionaire named Sir Guy Grand adopts a young derelict to be his son, and together they go about using Sir Guy’s money to pay people to humiliate themselves in various ways. (“The Magic Christian,” by the way, is a supposed ship, not a person, created by Sir Guy as one of his more elaborate pranks.) In practice, the movie is something of a mess. But I can still think of audiences for it, to wit:
(1) People who want to see what is arguably the high point of Ringo Starr‘s film career, at least in movies not featuring the other Beatles. (Oh, c’mon. There must be at least some of you out there in Internetland.)
(2) British absurdist comedy fans, since this film represents a bridge of sort between comic generations. For the earlier generation, Goon Show mainstay Peter Sellers plays a principle part, and Goon Show principal and writer Spike Milligan has a cameo, and if you pay close attention, you’ll notice that occasional Goon Show guest John Snagge can be heard in a voiceover. For the rising new generation, Monty Python members John Cleese and Graham Chapman contributed material and appear in bit parts of their own.
(3) Those of us who want Fetish Fuel! There’s tons, and that’s why I’m writing this up for ErosBlog. I can’t possibly pick out everybody’s possible favorites, but I’ll focus on two.
First, can you really say you’ve lived if you haven’t seen Hamlet’s soliloquy done as a striptease?
Second, the “engine room” of The Magic Christian turns out to be a mock-up of the rowing deck of an oared galley, complete with galley slaves. Topless female galley slaves…
…presided over by Raquel Welch.
Note that she did not forget the whip.

Yesterday Boing Boing linked to a site selling expensive poster art of Raquel Welch, gently crucified for publicity in connection with the movie One Million Years BC:
However, I went looking for a better-quality image and found (on a Flickr page I refuse to link because I purely hate when people claim copyright in images they don’t have rights to) instead a different shot that I like better:
Of course the instant I saw these photos, I thought of the von Keller image about which Faustus blogged here.
