Did you know that stewardesses used to spend their time on the ground kneeling on thin mats in fetching silk nighties while being schooled in “exercise and beauty culture” by Mary Poppin’s sadistic twin sister? That was my general takeaway from this two-page spread in the April 1941 issue of Peek magazine:

Poise is important….. if you are crashing into a mountain.
