Good point, Dr. Whiplash. There were a number of “hook-up” magazines that I recall from back a few decades ago – which were mostly personal ads, people looking for other people for sexual encounters, but which also had ads looking for people to be in pornographic films.
Before the 1970s, though, I really can’t make a guess at how that worked. Casting calls and tryouts, perhaps?
