My first thought when I saw this vintage photo (here) was that it was one of the standard old racist tropes that used to be so common in “inter-racial” porn. You know the one, hulking brute black beast ravishing the very flower of white femininity, blah blah blah, somebody gotta swoon, somebody gotta die.
And then I saw the position of her left hand. She’s reaching for him, in a gesture that’s in no way defensive. Still calculated — as racialized porn almost always was until surprisingly recently — to offend the ignorant, but in a rather different (and to my taste, rather more pleasant) manner.
