In 1930s California, there was apparently a social ritual for unmarried young women. They would chastely and demurely line up for a public exhibition of their enthusiasm and skill at attacking and completing unfamiliar oral tasks. These nine young ladies are celebrating the ritual with, quite literally, gusto:
