No Upskirts, No Marriage Proposals
Jason Scott found this awesome code-of-conduct sign in a Japanese arcade. I can’t read it, but from the symbols I assume it says something like:
- No upskirt photography
- No proposals of marriage
- No stealing briefcases
- No grabbing women’s asses
From such modest building blocks are civilizations built.

The internationally recognized diagonal bar used to indicate that an act is prohibited, is missing here, so I think we should believe that these actions are all permitted, if not encouraged!
The female figure, in the second image, is so tiny on my smartphone screen, that I’m guessing either she’s in the transitional stage of a sex change or we are to assume that anyone dressed as a female, but sporting a strap-on dildo, should have their position of authority acknowledged by way of dropping to one’s knees immediately.
I don’t think they’re encouragement, I think they’re warnings. “Beware of…”, men sneaking pics, asking you out, stealing your stuff, grabbing you. I note that the man is only the victim in the “stealing your stuff” image.
Hmmm…
So it’s more of a “WARNING! If you’re too drunk to stand on your own two feet, don’t be proposing marriage to pre-op transsexuals unadvisidly, even if they’re dressed like Doris Day”?
Can some kind & knowledgeable soul please translate? I’m dying to know what it *really* says.
I wasn’t going to comment because I didn’t want to spoil the fun, but it doesn’t actually say “No marriage proposals.”
It says,
“No upskirts”
“No pickup artists/No solicitation”
“No theft”
“No ass-grabbing”
It’s just an illustration of some guy trying to pick up a girl with a diamond ring.
@Dr. Whiplash: As you did, I assumed it was not a prohibition because of the lack of a slash. I assumed the warnings were directed primarily to WOMEN, which is why I commented on the man being the victim only in the theft warning. They need to be TOLD not to steal stuff? What goes on in these arcades? (yes, the other stuff is bad too, but apparently more tolerated in Japan)
I’m still a bit puzzled as to why that figure on the left, in the second illustration, is wearing a skirt, presumably a lady’s hat, has breasts, and is apparently truly sporting a rather respectable penis.
