Many years ago, and again last year, I published artwork illustrating the myth of the conception of Perseus, during which process Danae was in close confinement but nonetheless got impregnated when Zeus rained himself, or an important part of himself, down upon her as a shower of gold coins. I must not be the only person to have wondered about the extent to which Zeus’s golden shower of jizzcoin has been conflated in modernity (or before) with golden showers as a urolagniac euphemism. This related artwork from the May 1968 issue of Adam magazine does not help to main the conceptual distinction, portraying as it does a golden Zeus-shower blasting from the tip of an ornate helmet-headed phallic column:
