Here’s Why I Adore Optimists
I have a soft spot in my heart for optimists … especially optimistic men. This beautiful sunrise picture shows why:

I can’t divulge much about the photo, but I can say it’s an unedited (except for some cropping), amateur photo from a series.
I LOVE it. What an awesome picture – I’ve never seen one like it. Where did it come from? Is it by a professional or an amateur? Is it a solid photo or an edited one? Is it from a series? Kudos to the photographer, I like it.
I like it too. What a great way of having your photo taken nude anonymously – I must try that sometime!
Noticed the seemingly forced curve and “cusp” outline (lower and mid-back). Is that male(?) corsetted?
I failed to acknowledge Aphrodite well. Welcome, girl. But your sibling Aeros is best served by the picture of dawn. The goddess(if I’m remembering right) of dawn was also a powerful sexual/reproductive god/goddess. It has been ages since I’ve done this research.
Hi Casper,
It is indeed a genuine male, and no, he isn’t corsetted. Maybe he’s just “sucking it in” for the picture. He is a nicely fit specimen, I can attest to that. :)
Was it taken with his knowledge/permission?
Hi,
I’m both the photographer and the model. I didn’t ask myself, but I think I had my permission. I’m not a professional at either. I was just walking by in the morning, when I saw my shadow cast by the sun, streaming almost horizontally through my room, through the doorway, and onto the hall wall. So I grabbed my cheap digital camera and shot myself.
That may account for the odd curve of my back; I was twisting a little to hold the camera pointed right, without looking through it, and trying to keep the camera from showing. I think the “cusp” on my back is probably my elbow sticking out a little, coincidentally lined up with my rib cage in front. No girdles. Since it’s a shadow, all we get is an outline, and you can’t see the arm.
It was just an impulse, but I thought it was fun, and I’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback on the shot (thanks Aphrodite!). I may try to do more with the technique.
Comments 7 and 8 bring up an interesting point. I’m pretty sure you don’t need a person’s permission to photograph their shadow. A famous person however, might try to sue you if you used their “likeness” to endorse a product, but then, I’m fairly sure they would ultimately fail to prevail in court, although I can see why they might feel harmed if the shadow were recognizable. It would make a fascinating test case…
