Sex Graffiti
Via anonymous email, we have this folk art rendering of a woman having a spot of fun with an aerosol cologne container:

All I can say is… ouch!
What was the guy who spray painted the image thinking? It’s a pretty nasty image… totally not hot in the least (well, in MY opinion, anyway!).
She has that Jenna Jameson discusted look on her face… yeesh.
i think i wouldn’t want to try to explain that image to my 9-year-old in a public place.
What I’m impressed is how good the drawing looks! Couldn’t have been the work of inmature kids. Soooo, some talented horny people? NICE!!!
Quite a lovely piece of work, especially when you realize that as graffiti, the artist 1. couldn’t be seen doing it, so it was quick and 2. most likely had to do it in the middle of the night.
Quite lovely. Thank you!
I’d venture to say that’s supposed to be a spray paint can…
Could be, could be. But the proportions are wrong — I’ve never seen a spray paint can where the nozzle is a third the width of the can. Cologne sprays, yes.
I expect you’re right, though. It would make more sense, given the context.
All I can imagine is stepping off the subway to that lovely image! Talk about making your day. :satisfied:
Of course it’s a spray paint can. C’mon don’t be silly. Nozzle-to-can width ratio is meaningless here. It’s a stylized rendering.
Plus, spray paint also comes in 6 oz. cans.
It looked like a piece of dynamite, at first glance, talk about genital mutilation.
It’s somewhat hard to convey emotion with black and white lines using a spray-can, I think the artist has done an excellent job given the medium and probably a limited time frame.
I am pretty sure it is a spray can. I believe the the jagged lines at the nozzle are there to emphasize the nozzle as such. This likely a dig against a female gang member or a female “writer”. Perhaps a statement that her usefullness in a gang is merely sexual and as a ‘paint bitch’. Graffiti from the females tend to be more polite and interactive, usually informative. Sometimes too informative. Graffiti has been called the “newspaper of the streets.” Each gang has its unique symbols and cryptic types of writing. Most Graffiti is not art work, it is often used by gangs to communicate. It may represent a gang’s territory, define status, ownership, or power, as well as give warnings. Among graffiti that is art, there is lots of harassment towards females that paint. These female “writers” get lots of flack, from males who view this as threat to an artform that was created by males, and still is dominated by men.
The artist is providing a comment on the self-referential, mastubatory nature of most graffiti art.
Oarah: that was the most ridiculous explanation of graffiti I have ever heard. This is simply part of a piece, the writer has not painted this image to degrade or attack a female writer in any way. Please, don’t try and express your ignorant view on graffiti as fact.
and jhan, your kind of over-analysis of graffiti is what is killing the art form.
