You know, it occurred to me that since nobody mentioned it, perhaps many of your readers are too young to recognize that photo as an Irving Klaw image.
The film “The Notorious Bettie Page” (starring Gretchen Mol as the “Pin-Up Queen of the Universe”), was largely about her relationship with mail-order pin-up king and fetish photo pioneer Klaw, as was the film “Bettie Page Reveals All” ( http://www.imdb...6086/ )
When pressure from the McCarthy-esque/witch-hunting feds (Senate Subcommittee on Juvenile Delinquency) caused Klaw to burn his collection of pics, his sister Paula secretly rescued about one out of five of the negatives, because she couldn’t bear to see the work destroyed (She took many of the Page photos herself!). We likely have her to thank for this beautiful image (She later re-opened the business in a saner time…).
Paula’s company now has over a hundred images of Ms. Lane online, quite a few of them with the whip… (Oh, and they are all likely from the same shoot, being as the above pic, which is included B.T.W., has the same carpet and window, and in many instances, even the same couch is featured).
