i think the answer to the formula is methanol (CH3OH) which is very flammable. So, I guess the teacher was showing how flammable it can be.
Alcohol huh? Perhaps the lesson here is candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker!
Methanol (CH3OH) is not the best alcohol to drink because it metabolizes to formaldehyde (CH2O), which will literally blind you. Ethanol (CH3CH2OH) is the friendly alcohol that we humans know and love.
