Social Justice Warrior? Well, Duh…
I first heard of “Social Justice Warrior” being used as an insult when I ran across some of science fiction author John Scalzi’s internet trolls. My reaction? “You say that like it’s a bad thing…” So I love this:
It’s always hilarious to hear SJW used as an insult. “Social justice warrior” is the basic plot of most ’80s action shows and cartoons. Arriving in places and fighting against discrimination? The A-Team were social justice warriors. It’s practically a synonym for Knight Rider. Insulting someone for respecting other people is like insulting them for masturbating — the fact you don’t do it has way more to do with why you’re so upset all the time.

At some point in time a SJW group will turn on you. You have integrity. The SJW groups mostly don’t. Most SJW groups just want to spend other peoples money telling other people what to do. See NAACP, Rainbow coilition ect. These groups have good ideas and good intentions but the people who are in charge of them are mostly opertunist.
The distinction really is between “social justice activist”, which is a good thing and what is being described, and “social justice warrior” which is someone who focuses on tiny little points at great volume to the detriment of actual social justice. Like the difference between MRAs and sane people.
On the other hand, looking at the kind of people who hold to that distinction makes me deeply uncomfortable with sharing it with them, which is why I now take both “activist” and “warrior” to mean exactly the same thing (the sensible one, in case you’re wondering).
People assuming that someone else is using the same definition as they themselves normally use, when in fact the other person is assuming that everyone will understand what they mean without defining their terms, leads to a Hell of a lot of arguments online.

Someone should sell T-shirts at the next Gay Pride Festival printed with:
LGBT The fact you don’t do it, has way more to do with why you’re so upset all the time
(and at the next polyamory potluck dinner:
POLYAMORY The fact you don’t do it has way more to do with why you’re so upset all the time )
