Organs Of Generation

This illustration isn’t half bad considering it comes from an 1847 anatomy text:

1847 vulva drawing

Why the surprise? Is it that they could draw in the 1840’s or that they had vaginas?

    What surprise?

VAGINA? Why I’m surprised at you schoolboys! Having such dirty thoughts about what is clearly a depiction of a popular antiquated religious iconography, which is commonly known as a mandorla. If you just look carefully, you can plainly see the Christian “vesica piscis” containing a line drawing of the Virgin Mary in a hooded robe. A google search of “Virgin Mary in vesica piscis” or “vesica piscis” plus “Virgin Mary” (both in quote marks) should yield results such as this: https://quiesincaelis.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/mandorla.jpg?w=378&h=529 Innocent images such as this can be found in churches across the globe.
