Ukrainian witches in action:

Early in the Russian invasion of Ukraine, this snippet of video went viral. It features some Russian soldiers in their tanks, surrounded by a derisive crowd, listening to an irate local woman threaten them with witchy curses that will permanently soften their peckers. I don’t have the language skills to translate the audio track myself, but from various social media reports, the gist of it apparently goes something like this:

Do you know where you are? It’s Konotop!

Here every second woman is a witch.

Tomorrow you won’t be able to get your dick to stand up!

[mass of unfriendly laughter]

For reference, Konotor is a Ukrainian city that’s somewhat famous for its witches. There’s a famous story, The Witch Of Konotor, but I can’t say whether there’s a story because the witches were already famous or whether the witches of Konotor are famous because of the story. Either way, folk magic curses, amplified by a large and hostile crowd, are nothing for a prudent person to take lightly!
