What Makes A Decent Man

For most of the eighteen years of ErosBlog’s existence, I have been waging a quiet war for a simple proposition: it’s possible for dudes to like porn and love sex without being assholes about it. There’s an irreducible fraction of porn fans who can’t seem to see or mention a porn performer (or any sexually-expressive woman) without denigrating her, using words like cunt and whore and slut and bitch. If this blog has a theme or a philosophy, it centers around having no need whatsoever to apologize for unabashed male-gaze appreciation of porn or of sexual women. Accordingly, I’ve always needed to moderate the comments. And I’ve never apologized for doing it. It’s just a chore, made necessary by the hostility of the world we live in to the point I’ve been trying to make.

Over the years I’ve tried different verbal formulae to explain the editorial policy. I’ve asked people not to act like dicks. (I’ve actually repeated that request a couple of different ways.) I’ve chided misogynist guys for being bitter and scared. I’ve written against sexual contempt. I’ve asked people not to crap all over beauty, and shared some outside perspectives on that notion. There’s been a lot more. But it all circles around this notion I have, that we dudes can love porn and celebrate sex without apology, as long as we’re decent about it.

All of which is a long way to explain why I’m posting this speech by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, sometimes called “AOC”, upon the occasion of her having been called a “fucking bitch” in public by an old white powerful Republican man, Representative Ted Yoho of Florida:

The speech is worth your time for many reasons. It has a lot to say about misogyny and the problem of lack of respect for women. But I include it here as accompanying material for this one line from it:

“Treating people with respect is what makes a decent man.”

Yeah, that.

Ghost Of Tumblr Porn

For reasons I don’t fully understand, the Internet Archive’s crawler had a lot of trouble capturing porn pages on Tumblr over the years. Even when it got the text and comments on a particular post, the image was often not captured. The cultural loss of the curated porn collections on Tumblr when Yahoo took the porn blogs dark was painful enough, but the fact that such a small portion is archived tends to intensify the pang.

The loss seems even more severe in the realm of animated porn .gif clips, which were an art form almost unique to Tumblr. Perhaps because of the file sizes, these seem generally to have been archived less successfully than single-image .jpg files. But a few of these Tumblr ghosts were saved.

Here’s a classic example: an enthusiastic blowjob animation prepared by DarkMinstrel007 back in 2013. Don’t let anybody tell you that making porn .gifs isn’t an art form. You could call it curation if you prefer, but if so, all you’ve done is established that curation, too, is art-making.

Mad Mike

I don’t know precisely what stimulated Mike’s anger at his naked companion here. But the fact that Mike wears a belt with his name picked out in studs for just this sort of occasion? That suggests to me that he might be having ongoing infidelity issues with his unfortunate prone boyfriend:

And So The Story Ends

That’s the title of this artwork: And So The Story Ends. It dates from 1927, is by Charles Wheeler, and hangs in the Art Gallery of South Australia. At some point they must have done a nice restoration or cleaning, because all of the other internet photos of this canvas lack the vibrant colors that the gallery photo displays:

I don’t mind admitting I’m more interested in the “end” than I am in the story, but just for my friend Dr. Faustus, here’s a full zoom on the magazine she’s reading. I was hoping to find out what kind of pulp magazine that is, but no joy:

what pulp magazine is this pretty nude reading?

Font Butts

Which font makes the sexiest butt? ASSCII art is so much fun:

I believe I’m a Helvetica man myself, but good old solid and reliable Arial has much to recommend her.

As seen on Twitter.

“Look What I Made You Do!”

This photo is from a group of kinky amateur sex photos that circulated about a decade ago. If you wonder why people like “amateur” porn despite the category being utterly flooded with commercial porn shot to look similar, ask yourself when was the last time you saw such a “look what I made happen!” expression of self-satisfied glee on the face of a model in commercial blowjob porn:

German Swamp Witches

When we think “witches dancing naked in a circle” we usually think “in a forest” or “around a bonfire” or “in the moonlight”. Such is the power of folklore. Somehow, the swamp witches of Germany have been utterly forgotten…

five naked white women holding hands and dancing in a circle in ankle-deep water

More seriously, this is an image that appeared in a 1930s Nazi-approved book celebrating the naked body. Per this article, body pride (in Aryan bodies only, duh, because Nazis are assholes) was seen as essential “to build a strong and self-confident race.”
