The Woman In The Waves
This is just an amazing piece of nude art:
It’s The Woman In The Waves by Gustave Courbet, from 1868.

Now that is a piece of art I can like. Very nicely done.
To quote a great blogger….”I don’t know art, but I know what I like…”
Would love to share my hot tub with HER!
Beautiful! I love how the flesh is so tenderly rendered – you can almost taste those soft, puffy aureoles. That water must be warm!
Oh, for the days when women didn’t feel like they had to shave everything that grew hair.
When did that start, anyway?
Everyone, but feigned especially you might aslo like Orign of the World, by the same artist.
The original hung in The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York for years. It came down during a renovation and I haven’t seen it back there for a while. Shame -it’s certainly a favourite.
Note to Rex:
They weren’t expecting a visit from John Ashcroft were they?…
It’s back at the Met in NY (as part of a special exhibit). His nudes are amazing. And don’t miss “The Origin of the World.”
Courbet’s “Woman with a Parrot” is also much more beautiful than it’s “Monty Python in Tijuana” title would imply…
