Overheard, In Game
My internet spaceship game has voice communications. And sometimes the guys (it’s mostly guys) say some funny stuff. Funny or sad, it’s not always easy to tell:
So, my ex-wife asks me, “Where can I get an old used keyboard?”
I ask her “Why?”
She says: “I thought maybe I could pry all the keys off and glue them to my body, then maybe you’ll touch me the way you touch that game of yours.”
Ouch…

“And I thought you didn’t like it when I repeatedly hit the ‘1’ key!”
You know, I have been noticing the Japanese tradition of Onanism slowly creeping it’s way into the west. More and more guys seem to be forsaking their love lives entirely for different kinds of fiction, including online games, anime, and porn.
I’m not sure what to say, I suppose meatspace is no longer everybody’s cup of tea. But from the perspective of “being touched like you touch that game of yours”, you mustn’t knock free form roleplay via text until you’ve tried it. ^_~
Meh, I’m all for video games (mmk, *I* don’t like them, personally, but I don’t have an issue with a partner playing) but I once dated a guy who wouldn’t blink when I danced around his room naked while he was playing WoW. Um, yeah, not dating anymore.
Coincidentally I was playing WoW last night with a small group and one of the guys declares, in all CAPS: “WOW MY WIFE IS REALLY HOT I NEED TO GO WHEN WE’RE DONE”. To which someone replied “Booty call trumps WoW ANYTIME”.
I play a WWII FPS (Battle Ground Europe, highly addictive once you master it), and a lot of other player’s wives refer to it as The Other Woman. My gf does too sometimes.
However I’ve managed to convey to her how much I enjoy playing the game, how it helps work out frustrations and relieve stress. Lots of people watch TV shows so they can experience emotional highs and lows that they might not experience in real life, some of us play computer games to get an interactive sensation rather than a passive one.
