I wonder if he was working from memory, fantasy, direct experience or with models? It Is a nice variety of methods
Justin, somewhere in my web searching I saw a blurb that said very little was known about his personal life or the conditions under which he drew his erotic art. There was speculation that he drew largely from fantasy and memory; I think the phrase I saw was that he’d have needed access to “extravagantly louche” models (for 1950s Britain) to draw most of his poses from life.
