Why Polyamory Is Disgusting
Hint: it’s not for the reason you might think!

I’m almost nervous about hearing her feelings on homosexual polyamory.
actually I think it’s Multiamory or polyphilia
Polyerosy just sounds a little wonky to me. It would make a better term for an allergic rash appearing on one’s sphincter.
Multiamory just doesn’t have the sparkle that polyamory has.
Polyphilia sounds like a disorder. It sounds too judgmental for my tastes.
I think amordextrous would be more appropriate. (er… that last sentence is a joke y’all. Don’t be jumpin’ on my grammar…)
I assume “decimate” was used ironically.
As far as I know I have only convinced one person of the utility of the following words:
androphile – a person who loves men,
gynophile – a person who loves women,
anthropophile – a person who loves people.
I would imagine that the majority of polyamorists are actually oligophiles. Having a few lovers rather than many.
Perhaps another suffix would sound better and be more appropriate – polycardia, having many hearts, oligocardia, having a few hearts, monocardia, having one heart. “Heart” was used by Sappho for a passionate love. This would be more apt for relationships as eros and philos can be fleeting. Also -philia has become associated with disorders rather than nice love.
Polycypric, oligocypric from the island of Cyprus used to poetically denote Aphrodite.
A few interesting words I bumped into in Greek:
Homodoulos – fellow slaves, metaphorically of two men in love with the same woman.
Athesmolectros – joined in lawless love.
Kakeros – fatally in love, literally bad love.
Dr Whiplash, how would we distinguish those who love the right-handed and those who love the left-handed (amorsinister)?
I feel for this professor, even if s/he is something of a nut.
Greek does have a word á¼Ïαστής for lover of persons, so I suppose you could have “polyerasts,” “monerasts,” &c, although perhaps the current existence of “pederast” makes this an unpalatable option.
Another possibility might be to build off a word like κοινωνός (partner or companion). Folks could be polykoinic, oligiokoinic, or monokoinic, as suits their tastes.
κοινωνός is a general term for people who hold things in common, such as partners in tax-farming, business interests, crimes, etc. Koinonia is an English word used to signify membership of the Christian fellowship, though ironically not commonly used. -koinic would surely just mean common? Not as romantic as hearts.
It’s all Greek to me. But I’m loving the erudite suggestions in this thread.
May I suggest “pluriamorous”, “pluriamory”? To leave the Greek out of it.
-erosy is a nonsense stem. This joke is simply an old meme based on an early critique of television for having the same bilingual formulation.
I remember a professor who claimed that for consistency’s sake automobile should be suimobile. Also, Polyerosy sounds like a cardiac disease.
As a Greek I found it very interesting. In greek we use the word polygamikos “πολυγαμικος” or not so often and the word polyerotikos “πολυεÏωτικος”.
