Sex Ice Cream
I still have most of the last season of Anthony Bourdain’s food and travel show in my DVR. I watch it, an episode here or there, as chances come up. I’m not in any hurry to say goodbye. In the episode about Newfoundland, he gave a very evocative review of a soft serve ice cream flavored with Chanterelle mushrooms:
“It tastes like farmer’s daughter. You know, that musty funk, in a hayloft? It’s kinda dirty, but in a good way!”
You would know, Anthony. You would know.

Some cable channel has run a few old episodes of Bourdain, and the way his life ended seems to have made them more poignant. Sometimes it seems the episodes themselves have made his death more poignant. He was an exceptional soul who had the ability to make you feel as if you were traveling with him, sharing the same spaces and meals. The likes of him we are not likely to find again. Who else would have ever described that mushroom dish with such insight and uniqueness?
Wine, mushrooms, and steak are the 3 things that I’ve compared the musky taste of female arousal to the most. I totally get what he’s saying in that lovely comment.
