At first glance my instant mental summing-up of this artwork by Jean Morisot was “carnival stripper getting her ass eaten out by a creepy clown” and I’m not sure that’s entirely wrong. But when I saw all the musical instruments lined up behind them, my mind flashed instantly to the Blues Brothers, and Dan Ackroyd solemnly intoning “No, ma’am, we’re musicians.” Which, you know, also checks out, especially if you ever knew anybody who was in a marching band:
