A Blonde At Auction
This blonde on an auction block with swarthy men waving gold coins at her is pretty risque for the 1930s. I guess that a wisp of her hair theoretically covers her otherwise-exposed nipple?
Artwork is by the legendary Margaret Brundage, on the cover of an issue of The Magic Carpet Magazine, advertising a story called “The Dragoman’s Pilgrimage: A Tale Of The Slave Mart Of Mecca”.

What do you suppose they call that not a robe, not a gown, probably not a shawl “garment” item she’s been supplied with?
Where I come from we call it a curtain.
Growing up, whenever we needed some cloth for a makeshift tent,to cover some furniture or wrap a slave girl, there was a big chest full of ‘Grandma’s Curtains’.
Looking back I realise she must have had a fuck of a lot of windows. Or slaves maybe?
Dr Whiplash, I think “wrap” is a sufficiently broad term to cover it. Even if the item of clothing is not broad enough to cover it.
Note to Hug:
You definitely caught what I was getting at.
“Wrap” is probably the most appropriate or accurate term, and you certainly topped my attempt at humor!
Thanks for helping me define that item, I couldn’t think of the appropriate term.
Much like a feather boa, I suppose its purpose is more to tease, than to actually cover…
