A famous pickup line (or as they might have called it back then, a sexual come-on) of the sexual revolution in the 1960s was “Let’s make beautiful music together” and similar phrases. I am not quite old enough to have ever heard it uttered live and unironically, if indeed it ever was unironic; it was a tired hippie joke, a cultural cliche as stale as bell bottoms and the peace sign, by my teen years in the 1980s. I’ll bet it has a specific source — a movie or a song, probably — but I don’t know it; perhaps an old hippie who does know can share in the comments?

1970s nude woman playing a great harp

Photo is from the April 1972 issue of Men Only magazine.
