Tree Fucking
The abnormal summer heat is only just now starting to break where I live, but the signs are there to read in the forecast: the season for dragging your woman into the woods and fucking her roughly up against the bark of a tree is almost over!

Not that we won’t all remain alert for off-season opportunities…
From the undated (but very 1970s-looking) German porn magazine Frivol #41.

I’ve always appreciated your deep-dives and like to consider them challenges when you taper off, so here’s my best guess: ’74 – ’76.
1. One company claims to have a back catalog of scans through most of Frivol’s run. The contents don’t matter for this question, only the covers.
2. Very early Frivol issues are dated. Up through at least issue #18 (31 August 1972) they are dated in full, and then they started leaving the dates off but included a ##/YY format at least through issue 22 (22/73, so 1973).
3. Looking at their earlier publications their schedule is very sporadic (#12 is just in time for Halloween ’71 and #13 doesn’t come out until June ’72) but they probably get 8-10 issues out per year (#2 is in January ’71). Issue 22 is marked, simply, /73, and issue 25 drops the year convention. But they keep publishing! Issue 271 celebrates their 25th anniversary in 1997 (lending more data to the “about 10 issues a year” pace).
4. Adding 19 issues to our closest concrete date (’73) puts us somewhere in ’74 or ’75, but I’d stick an extra year of squiggle room in there given the inconsistent publishing schedule we saw between #12 and #13.
LastDodo claims August 1975, and that seems reasonable, but I don’t know how they got that information.
Thanks, Adrian. I always appreciate it when people dig for details I didn’t have the time or persistence to root out.
In this case a quick search got me about 70% of the way to where you arrived, including to the conclusion that the answer was ultimately going to ambiguous by a year or two on available data. I decided I didn’t want to spend nn minutes documenting a chain of evidence that didn’t lead to a precise destination. But I very much appreciate you doing so and confirming both my intuition and my sloppy mental extrapolation from the early dated issues.
