Dreaming Of Sun And Spray
How many times have you sat in your stuffy cubicle or cramped home office and dreamed of sunshine and ocean spray and beach breezes working over every goddamned inch of the skin on your body?

Photo is from Issue #41 of Naturist magazine. I don’t have a date for you and the title is too generic for a few minutes of searching to let me pin it down, but I’m guessing from context clues that the photo dates to the 1960s, or possibly the late 1950s.

If you look very closely at the cover there’s a stamp saying “Outdoor American Corporation”. Sadly I’m not finding a helpful page anywhere telling me much about the company. Searching around for that company name and the title I’ve found some issues for sale. Vol 1, issue 02 is dated 1960 and has the same typography for the title. Later issues from volume 1 all have the same style of cover with a red border and a legend saying Nudism – Physical Culture – Health. Volume 1 11 is Nov 1960, priced 50c. Volume 2 03 is March 61 and numbered 15, which suggests to me that the numbering is sequential with 12 issues per volume, starting with number 1 in January ’60. 41 would therefore be May ’64. By which time they’d gone partial oolour at the higher cost of $1.25.
There are 3 issues on the Internet Archive, but unfortunately from an archivist point of view the person uploading has edited it to just the photos. You can make out that there is text on the reverse of some of those pages, so it could have been more fully scanned and uploaded I suspect. I’ve had a tinker and there is insufficient there for me to get anything more than occasional words back from large headers. Nowhere near enough for things like copyright or publishers details.
If you find any links about the company please share. I’m not finding much that I’d take too authoritatively.
