Simulated IUD Insertion
Two things men are often accused of: lack of empathy for women’s issues, and lack of knowledge about their gynecological procedures and problems. This short simulation and teaching video about an IUD insertion has been doing the rounds on social media, and might help with both:
The accompanying soundtrack is a short excerpt from the indie/alternative folk ballad Labour (video here) by Paris Paloma, a sort of rage anthem that tends to swell in the background of short video content whenever the discourse really gets going among the “we choose the bear” and 4B/6B4T cadres of modern feminism.

This actually sounds barbaric
This is either one of those U.S. problems or tiktok rage bait masquerading as medical content. Because pain relief is very much available and standard where I live.
Women in the US report that it is quite standard for this procedure to be performed without any pain relief at all, or with nothing but an NSAID. They swap notes on which doctors and clinics actually do offer adequate pain relief, because it’s so rare to find.
In the UK IUDs are probably a bit less common, but polling my friends, one has an IUD for HRT and hers was done under general, and replaced under general to allow a hysteroscopy. Another friend said she was given oestrogen gel to soften her cervix before hand and didn’t need any pain relief during and only paracetamol after. So it sounds like there is a range of options depending on the cervix undergoing *ahem* penetration. However none of my friends reports ‘inadequate’ pain relief, just a diversity of requirements and experiences all of which were adequate.
Smear tests however they all agreed were frequently painful and never came with pain relief.
