Just a tiny bit of research turns up a page telling us that the art is part of an inside illustration from a 1963 Male magazine for a story called “WWII’s Boldest Kidnap Raid”. The artist is Emmett Kaye painting as Mort Kunstler (sometimes given as Künstler).

It has come to my attention that thanks to LibriVox, the people who provide free public domain audiobooks recorded by volunteer readers, there are not one but two different complete recordings of John Cleland’s Fanny Hill: The Memoirs Of A Woman Of Pleasure.

The first dates from 2006, runs to 9.5 hours, and is recorded by an assortment of volunteers who read different chapters. The second is from 2016 and features a single reader, who (to my ear) does a better job of bringing the somewhat archaic phrasings to life, while cutting about half an hour off the listening times. You may find these Internet Archive download links more convenient than the LibriVox ones:

What’s going on? Well, it’s a scene from Dreams Of Spanking, where all is explained:

When the text is complete — the first few lines of Homer’s ‘Iliad’ — Pandora carefully examines her work, stripping Adele naked so she can admire the slick black script that covers her body. Afterwards Adele bends naked over the punishment bench in the Scriptorium, exposing every inch of her bare skin. Pandora’s found some smudges…

Pandora’s blogging about the photoshoot tells us a bit more about the shoot. For one thing, we learn that Girl On the Net does Pandora’s copywriting (see above) which says a lot about why it’s so consistently excellent. (Great copywriting is an anomaly so rare in the porn business as to approach in this case the true meaning of “unique” in its most absolute hard-mathematical full-Highlander “there can be only one” sense.)

We also learned that Pandora doesn’t necessarily impose a storyline on her shoots at the time that she is shooting them:

I don’t know what story these images might tell. Perhaps we are lovers, or witches; perhaps I’m an artist decorating her for some sort of show, or perhaps she’s my submissive and I’ve set her the challenge of stillness and obedience. Perhaps we are students in some strange alternate universe where punishment lines are written not on paper, but on skin.

Sex-aware people already know that (a) “porn addiction” is not actually a thing; and (b) worrying about it has been proven to be harmful in a way that actually viewing porn (however much) is just not. This article in Psychology Today dates from 2015, so it genuinely isn’t news. But lately the volume of “porn addiction” hand-wringing seems to be going up in our popular culture, so I thought it was worth liking the article to remind everyone:

Your Belief in Porn Addiction Makes Things Worse

In a nutshell:

In January 2015, Joshua Grubbs of Case Western published powerful research showing that seeing oneself as a porn addict was predicted not by how much porn one views, but by the degree of religiosity and moral attitudes towards sex. Now, Grubbs has published explosive follow-up research, demonstrating that believing oneself is addicted to porn actually causes pain and psychological problems, in contrast to the idea that identifying as a porn addict is a part of a road to recovery.

…

In these data, daily porn use was weakly related to feelings of anger. But, seeing oneself as a porn addict was strongly correlated with depression, anxiety, anger and stress.

…

Analyses confirmed that the self-perception as a porn addict predicted distress one year later, where either porn use or personality characteristics did not. If someone believed they were a sex addict, this belief predicted downstream psychological suffering, no matter how much, or how little, porn they were actually using.

This means that the large-scale promotion of the concept of “porn addiction,” in the media, on the Internet, by self-proclaimed experts and by an industry that preys off of an unrecognized disorder, appear to actually be hurting people. By telling people that their use of porn constitutes a disease, they are promulgating suffering and anxiety, instilling into people that their use of pornography means there is something wrong with them, and that this use has potentially dire consequences.

Bottom line: don’t be tolerant of “porn addiction” talk. It hurts people. Challenge it and debunk it whenever and wherever you hear it.
