Ceiling Cat Goes High Tech
Explanation for those who might need it:
By now you’ve probably met ceiling cat and his many, many friends. (No? It might be time to get up to speed.) And the web is all a-twitter about Google’s new “street view” camera that brings the Google Maps “Zoom” feature right down to street level and sometimes even in through your windows. So it was only a matter of time before the ur-lolcat got replaced by a LOLbot.

It does make one shudder. When I went to the even “in through your windows” link, and clicked to zoom in on the tabby cat on the perch on the second floor of Mary Kalin-Casey’s (Google Maps is spying on my cat), at the 404 Bellevue Ave. position (you can see it from more than one angle B.T.W.), I not only was able to pan around and see what the cat was probably watching (a hispanic female in a blue shirt with a black coat, possibly it’s owner, bringing it a bag full of cat food from the grocer’s?), but you can get the street number, license plate numbers, which two days of the month the street is swept, the all-way stop sign, the palm trees, the magnolia tree, the cracks in the asphalt, and if the resolution was just a wee tad better, I could also tell you if the apartment next door has a curious pussy cat (orange) as well, or if they just like to keep a vase full of marigolds in the sill… Thanks to Bacchus and the links he provided, the next time I’m leaving my local adult bookstore with my treasured latest monthly issue of “Lactating Monopedic Lesbians”, I know to peep out the door first, and make sure that Google car with the eleven-lensed camera perched on the roof isn’t driving by!

There was an article in my local paper about Googles’ new technology. Despite the titillating nature of such technology, I find it quite Orwellian and somewhat not so cool.
