Sweet, Sticky Fruit
Other artists before have played with this visual metaphor. But including the insects, I think, is very telling. These fruits are tempting and attractive, but also soon to be (if not even presently) rotting, decaying, and consumed. Somebody is not entirely comfortable with this particular sweet treat!

Where did you find this one? I might end up using it as a (PDF) book cover someday, if I can lawfully do so.
The wasps signified to me the attraction of ugly, aggressive, venomous types to the sweet and intoxicating (when a little fermented) fruit. As a frugivore I am represented by the ring-tailed lemur just out of frame. Cute, hairy, cool-tempered and partially grey.
The little text at the “bottom” of the fruit seems to suggest its an Ex libris sticker? or am i reading it wrong?
Sark, I agree that it’s a bookplate. Rafu, I don’t remember just where I found this one, you might try Google’s reverse image search and see where it takes you.
Aaand… you were right as usual. I found it in a few minutes:

According to these data, it would be a recent piece of artwork (2010) by one Konstantin Antioukhin. The fanciful text “exl. jack van peer” would have been included to give it the appearance of an old book plate, then.
Nice work, Rafu!
Since the “exl” is by the artist, one other possibility is that it is indeed a bookplate, albeit a modern commissioned one.
