I think a lot of people may not realize that the most classic pinup artworks were often drawn from carefully-posed life models, and/or perhaps from reference photos of such models. It’s relatively rare to see the reference photos, but here’s the one Gil Elvgren used to draw his famous scene of the sexy barbecue chef fanning her charcoal grill with her skirt:
